In the 2026/2027 concert season, the Papandopulo Quartet will confirm its status as a passionate promoter of contemporary music, especially that by domestic composers: each concert will include a premiere! 

 

In the first concert, which will direct attention to sound textures through a catalogue of entirely disparate works, Mozart will balance the idea of the timeless and repertorial with that of contemporary composer expression.

The outstanding Croatian bass-baritone Krešimir Stražanac will appear as a guest artist. He will join the Papandopulo Quartet in premiering a new work by Petar Obradović. 

 

In addition to Mozart and Obradović, we will hear the works that the Papandopulo Quartet has already established: the somewhat hectic Goldspell composed by Mirela Ivičević and the neoclassical Choral and Scherzando by Davor Bobić.

 

The second concert in the cycle will offer sound colours through dance music and music inspired by theatre. It will begin with the stylized classical and Latin dances, Erwin Schulhoff’s Five Pieces for String Quartet, arranged by Peter Vigh. Schulhoff offers transparency of sounds, dense but clearly separated layers of colour, and the passion of dance steps, which will be followed by a premiere: Drama Queen by Sanda Majurec. The Quartet’s guest artist, pianist Ivan Batoš, will appear as a soloist alongside the Papandopulo Quartet in Franck’s excellent, virtuosic Symphonic Variations, and the concert will conclude with the rock-and-roll miniature Rocking Birds, featuring the breezy, playful colours of Marijn Simons.

 

The Quartet's third and final concert of the season will invite us to direct our attention to musical forms, from the lavish, classical and carefully elaborated ones, such as Beethoven’s String Quartet in F major, Op. 18 No. 1, through the frenetic  Tezcatlipocas by Matthias Kranebitter, which depicts the supreme Aztec god, to Michael Torke’s July, which plays with elements of other works of popular music. At this concert we will hear the premiere of a new work by the young and talented percussionist and composer Šimun Matišić.
