An evening of authentic traditional highlights and rediscovery of the most beautiful recent 20th century music history!
Few orchestras in the world can boast such an impressive history as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra! This outstanding orchestra, located in the heart of the European classical music scene, the world capital of music – the city of Vienna, has always been the desideria pia of many conductors: let's just mention its Chief Conductors Herbert von Karajan (who conducted the Orchestra from 1948 to 1964!), Wolfgang Sawallisch, Carlo Maria Giulini, Gennady Rozhdestvensky or Georges Prêtre, who significantly shaped the orchestra's interpretive aesthetics and superior playing skills!  Dutch conductor Jaap van Zweden, who will conduct the Zagreb concert of the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, is another one in the series of impressive world-class musicians! At the age of only eighteen, as a child violin prodigy, he became the concertmaster of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and his conducting talent was discovered by Leonard Bernstein, who hired him as his assistant. From that moment on, van Zweden gradually established himself as a conductor of world renown: as a guest conductor, he conducted the world's most famous orchestras, and now he is Chief Conductor of the New York Philharmonic! Dutch virtuoso violinist Simone Lamsma will be another jewel in the crown of that sumptuous musical evening.Music critics describe her violin playing as "brilliant, intense, absolutely surprising and intriguing". Simone Lamsma's rich repertoire has propelled her into the orbit of the most sought-after concert soloists: her performances around the world with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra or the Los Angeles Philharmonic, to name just a few, are followed with enthusiasm by audiences and music critics alike.  And what could we wish for from this extraordinary Viennese orchestra but a part of their impressive tradition? Ludwig van Beethoven's magnificent Fifth, 'Fate' Symphony, composed right there in Vienna! The evening's exciting program includes the tonally grand Overture to the opera Mastersingers of Nuremberg by Richard Wagner and the sonically opulent and dramatic Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D minor by the great English composer Benjamin Britten, one of the most beautiful violin concertos of the 20th century!
