Elina Garanča is one of the greatest opera stars of today. This Latvian mezzo-soprano draw the attention of the audience while she was still a student and she stepped in at just ten days’ notice to perform the role of Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti’s opera Anna Bolena. After she won the Mirjam Helin Singing Competition in Finland andplayed Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto in 1999, the doors of the best opera houses were opened to her. Her interpretations of Mozart heroines of bel canto repertoire are equally successful as her interpretations of sacral works. She performed at the world’s leading opera houses including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, the Vienna and Bavaria State Opera, Wiener Konzerthaus, the Viennese Musikverein, the Grand  Théâtre in Geneva, the Semper Oper in Dresden, the Opera Garnier in Paris and many more. Riccardo Muti, Kurt Masur, sir Roger Norrington, Marris Jansons, Nicolaus Harnoncourt, Fabio Luisi, Marco Armiliato, Anna Netrebko, Ramón Vargas, Rolando Villazón, Bryn Terfel, René Pape are just some of the famous conductors and singers with whom she collaborated. She recorded around ten CDs a and DVDs for the leading music publishing houses. She won numerous awards including four awards for singer of the year (Echo Klassik 2007 and 2009 Award, Musical America Award 2010, MIDEM Classical Award 2010). Moreover, the European Cultural Foundation assigned her the European Cultural Prize for Music in 2006, while for the recording of Vivaldi’s opera Bajazet she was nominated for a Grammy and won the MIDEM Classical Award in 2006 for the best opera recording. Since 2005 she is an exclusive Deutsche Grammophone artist.

Ms. Garanča has all the goods: musicality, technique, voice, confidence, smarts, dramatic range – and movie-star looks.

She is a star of the first magnitude.

[Garanča] sings with rich sound, an unerring feel for the nuance and subtext of a phrase, and alluring sensuality. The clarity in her singing makes this Carmen seem intelligent and wily.
