José Carreras, one of the most prominent opera singers of his generation, is coming to the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on September 23rd, accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, where he will perform some of his most famous arias and songs.
Carreras is globally renowned for his exceptional vocal technique, deep emotional expression, and interpretation of roles in the operas of Verdi and Puccini. Born in Spain, Carreras has won the hearts of audiences worldwide with his exceptional artistry.
Throughout his highly successful career, Carreras has portrayed over 60 roles on stage and in the recording studio. His voice, distinguished by extraordinary warmth and expressiveness, has captivated listeners worldwide. Carreras has also achieved impressive sales figures with over 85 million recordings sold, making him one of the most commercially successful opera singers of all time.
What sets Carreras apart is not only his voice but also his incredible contribution to the fight against leukemia. After surviving this serious illness himself in 1987, he founded the José Carreras International Leukemia Foundation with the aim of supporting research and treatment of the disease.
After his recovery, he found a new role as an opera popularizer. As a passionate football fan, he came up with the idea of forming The Three Tenors for the opening of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. He and his friends Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti intended the concert as a one-time event, but due to immense popularity, they performed together 30 more times, achieving massive record sales - which still hold the record for classical music.
