A new music sensation on the Croatian scene
Bow vs. Plectrum
“What the two of them do on double bass and tamburitza is a completely novel, innovative approach to jazz and compositions in general, as it is probably impossible to find arrangements for these two instruments solo in such a combination in the history of music. Their skills match those of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, while the result of their music is a novel and unexpected interpretation of traditional folk songs, but also of those by Charlie Parker and Ivan Zajc. Besides their unbelievable collaboration, they also invited guests: Matija Dedić on piano, Vlatko Stefanovski on guitar, Theodosii Spassov on kaval and Žan Tetičkovič on drums. It is an album that will take you to a completely different world filled with a unique atmosphere and music that you have never heard before.”

In only one year (founded in January 2016), the Bow vs. Plectrum duo, composed of Filip Novosel on tamburitza and Tihomir Hojsak on double bass, has shown how much positive music energy and emotions the unexpected fusion of those two instruments can create in jazz pieces. In Filip’s and Tihomir's hands, the two string instruments with different playing traditions based on Croatian folk music create ethno jazz with a Pannonian and Balkan flavour. Top improvisations filled with folk music motifs fully reveal the range of both instruments – tamburitza and double bass. Numerous appearances throughout Croatia and abroad rocketed this duo to the very top of the Croatian ethno jazz scene and attracted extraordinary media attention. Their performances in America showed both the Croatian tradition and contemporary jazz in a special way, for which they received special recognitions for their contribution to culture from Californian Congresswoman Janice Hahn and the California State Senate. They used their stay in America to make a new video for Tihomir's piece Kit Blues. At numerous appearances around the world, Bow vs. Plectrum present both the Croatian heritage combined with contemporary music expression and Croatia in the best way. Their appearances are a real treat for music connoisseurs, but also a real discovery of the values of the Croatian tradition, which they spread throughout the world in a contemporary and unexpected way. In the past year, the appearances of the Bow vs. Plectrum music attraction have attracted the attention of audiences in Belgium, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and throughout the USA.
