From its foundation in 1949 until today, the repertoire of the LADO Ensemble is shaped and based on superb choreographic and musical works that interpret the dance, music, and traditional costume heritage of the Croatian countryside at an enviable aesthetic, artistic, performance and professional level.
Drmeš, kolo, polka, zurka is the name of the festive annual concert with which LADO celebrates its 74th birthday. The name of the concert refers to the theme of this year's program. Selected choreographies and musical, vocal-instrumental works focus on the traditional dance, music, and traditional costume heritage of lowland and central and northwestern Croatia.
In the ethnographic and ethnochoreological context, in this part of Croatia there are numerous cultural areas that, in addition to certain common features, also abound in particularities, particularly visible in the typological diversity and richness of national costumes. When it comes to dance heritage, drmeš, kolo, polka and zurka are the most typical and widespread traditional dances of the Croatian regions located along and "between the Sava, Danube and Drava".
Drmeš, kolo, polka, zurka is a program with which LADO will take the audience on a dance and musical journey through Posavina, Moslavina, Bilogora, Turopolje, Slavonia, Baranja, Srijem, Međimurje and Podravina. The repertoire of the Ensemble is systematically and continuously expanded and enriched.
Dances and songs from Eastern Slavonia, popjevka and drmeš from Turopolje, and a party from Srijem are some of the first performances that the audience will be able to enjoy watching and listening to the anniversary concert of the only Croatian professional folklore ensemble.
