An evening of discovery of new musical worlds and future big stars!
Young, exceptionally gifted musicians who already expertly master their instruments – such as the students of the Zagreb Academy of Music - are always welcome 'guests' in the Saturday at Lisinski concert series! Their youthful enthusiasm and love of music are also reflected in full-blooded performances that always burst with energy and good vibes!  This time, they will perform two seemingly completely opposite and incompatible pieces: the Concerto for Orchestra by Witold Lutosławski, one of the most important composers of the European avant-garde, and the Mass for Soloists, Choir and Orchestra by the young but extremely talented Croatian composer Josip Prajz. What connects the pieces is "a return to the roots of folk singing and music.” Lutosławski wrote his Concerto as a kind of Polish response to Bartók's piece of the same title, reaching for the melodic ancient forms found in Silesian folk songs.  [...] Contrary to that, in his Mass, Prajz is looking for a way back from the extremely contemporary dissonant sound to the simple harmony of Croatian folk church songs. In both cases, amazing works were created, full of strong, dramatic contrasts between the atomized structures of the avant-garde and simple diatonic melodic formulas." (Mladen Tarbuk) We already know all the qualities of the young Polish Chief Conductor of the Zagreb Philharmonic, Dawid Runtz: his impeccable, elegant technique, extraordinary sensibility and a special sense of communication with both the orchestra and the audience, and unique and unforgettable interpretations. Let us mention that Runtz is also Chief Conductor of the Royal Polish Opera in Warsaw and one of the young European conductors with a bright future ahead of him. As an artist deeply rooted in the Polish musical tradition, Runtz is indisputably one of the most appropriate interpreters of Lutosławski's Concerto, but also a master of his craft who will, when working with a large orchestra, choir and soloists, know how to inspire the young musicians and transform their potent talents into the finest art of music!
