“He is a genius!”, renowned Martha Argerich said when she was resigning from the jury of the 1980 Frederic Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw in protest after young Ivo Pogorelić, an unconventional and talented pianist, was refused to make the final. These words started an extraordinary career that took Ivo Pogorelić to the most prestigious concert halls throughout the world (the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, South America, Israel...). He appeared with the world's leading orchestras, such as the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, the London Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and Los Angeles Symphony Orchestras and others. He recorded his first recital for Deutsche Grammophon in 1981 and signed a long-term exclusive contract with the label in 1982. Pogorelić recorded albums with his unique and peculiar interpretations of compositions by Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Ravel, Liszt, Alexander Scriabin, Haydn, Scarlatti, Brahms, Mozart, Bach and Mussorgsky. Highly praised by critics, they delight audiences around the world. Besides his intense concert career, Pogorelić is also very engaged socially. He especially supports young musicians and organises assistance for ill, poor and socially disempowered people. In 1987, he was named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. He has received the Order of Croatian Morning Star with the Image of Marko Marulić, the Porin Award for special contribution to Croatian music culture and numerous other Croatian and international awards. He was and remains a genius... And it is not exaggerated to say: Ivo Pogorelić is one of the most important classical musicians today! This is why people look forward to each of his appearances with special interest and respect!
